LONDON (AFP) - Notorious rock hellraiser Ozzy Osbourne admitted he was a few beers away from mooning Britain's
Queen Elizabeth II and cannot fathom why Her Majesty would want to meet the "tattoed lunatic".

He said former Guns N' Roses guitarist Slash offered him cash to flash his backside at Royal Variety Show last month and had he not quit his wildman boozing days, he would have had the bare-faced cheek.
The former Black Sabbath frontman, 57, revealed how he beat alcoholism and said it could have been him when he watched the funeral of George Best last week, the football legend whose life was blighted by the addiction.
Singer Osbourne said Slash offered him 5,000 pounds (7,400 euros, 8,800 dollars) to flash his buttocks at the sovereign during a recent show in Cardiff.
"A few beers inside me and I would have double-mooned the Royal Box," he told The People weekly newspaper.
The self-styled "Prince of Darkness", from Aston in Britain's second city Birmingham, chatted with the Queen of England afterwards and said she was "really warm and friendly".

"It was a surreal night. I was standing next to that muppet thingy, Kermit the Frog, with
Rod Stewart punching it in the head. Crazy."
The mumbling and often confused rocker, whose popularity soared thanks to the fly-on-the-wall television show "The Osbournes", said the knock-on effects were baffling.
"It is odd. I was public enemy number one in the 1980s. Half of America wanted to burn me at the stake and now I'm meeting presidents, prime ministers, the Queen.
"I don't understand why any of them would want to meet some tattoed lunatic from the back streets of Aston."
Osbourne revealed how he was sick of the side effects of years out of his mind on drugs and booze.
The singer, who formed Black Sabbath in 1970 and has sold 90 million albums -- 50 million as a solo artist -- said stopping drinking had meant the end of his flings with groupies.
"When the thought of sex finally filtered through the haze of booze, all the good-looking groupies had gone home.
"You'd wake up, turn over and there'd be this thing lying there looking like something Picasso painted on a bad day.
"I still get offers now but I'm not interested.
"I got drunk for the first time at 14 and in the next 22 years I was hardly sober. But gradually it stopped being a buzz until every time I drank I became a miserable arsehole.
"I was wetting the bed every night and then I'd get angry and pissed off. I just got fed up with it.
"I used to drink in the house on me own and the next thing you knew it would be on fire."

The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Foundation will hold its induction ceremony March 13 at the Waldorf Astoria Hotel in Manhattan, the organization announced Monday. Also to be inducted into the class of 2006: Miles Davis, The Sex Pistols, 1980s New Wave band Blondie and Southern rockers Lynyrd Skynyrd. Musicians, industry professionals and journalists vote on the nominations. OzzFest shows delayed until Ozzy Osbourne gets over mystery illness

OzzFest has been rolling for a week sans its namesake and headlining band, Black Sabbath, but now a date has been delayed until Ozzy Osbourne gets healthy.
The OzzFest mega metal concert scheduled for Sunday in Somerset, Wis., will go on instead Sept. 10, it was announced Thursday night.
Black Sabbath has missed four shows due to Osbourne's illness -- with Iron Maiden stepping in as the mainstage headliners each night.However, Minneapolis OzzFest promoter Randy Levy told Friday's Minneapolis Star Tribune, "You can't do OzzFest without Ozzy."
Although what exactly ails the granddaddy of metal has not been revealed, media reports in recent days have cited acid reflux, respiratory problems and vocal problems.

That's the only reality show I can watch - This family is totally crazy, MTV made a great deal having this show. Sharon Osbourne Discusses 'The Osbournes

Although the last episode of MTV's "The Osbournes" will quietly air Monday, Sharon Osbourne said the first celebrity family of reality TV has already moved on.

The persnickety bride of rocker Ozzy Osbourne is pondering putting their gothic California home, made famous by the show, on the real estate market. Rebellious youngsters Kelly and Jack are in the process of moving out.

"We're thinking of selling it," Sharon told The Associated Press Friday. "It's really sort of become our office. It's not like coming home. Everybody knows where we sleep. Everybody knows what our bed is like. It would be nice to have something that's kind of more ours than the world's."

For four seasons, the Osbournes gave themselves to the world. Right up there with "The Real World" and "Survivor," they carved out the familial reality TV niche. The revealing first "Osbournes" season had everyone screaming "Shaaaron!!!!" but subsequent seasons saw sagging ratings. Over the course of three years, the series captured Sharon's bout with cancer, Ozzy's near-fatal bike accident and Jack and Kelly's separate jaunts into rehab.

"You have to end on top," Osbourne said. "You can't milk it. The thing is, I think we made a great statement. We made a great impact. We opened the doors for so many other people, and it's just time for us to move on."

Sharon said the worst part of the ongoing experience was giving up privacy, but in the same breath, she extols the fame she and two of her children were granted. (Aimee, the eldest Osbourne offspring, didn't participate in the show.) Now, celebrities with a reality show is just another genre, according to the woman who once threw a ham at her noisy neighbors.

"You can get arrested, you can serve time, you can break the law and then you get your own reality show," said Osbourne.

"The Osbournes" won't be ending with any pomp or circumstance. No fireworks. No live finale. No tribute from Nick Lachey and Jessica Simpson . Just another episode.

"To us, it wasn't a big hurrah that it's over," said Osbourne. "It's kind of bittersweet. It's just time."

In the finale, airing Monday at 10:30 EST, self-help guru Phil "Dr. Phil" McGraw visits the Osbourne's abode to provide his dissertation on the whole !%#@-ing family. Osbourne said she was cynical about listening to McGraw dispense his tell-it-like-it-is brand of therapy. After meeting with him, she now has "lots of respect for the man," even going so far as to call his critique "spot on."

"He gave me criticism which I felt was correct," said Osbourne. "I didn't give my kids a lot of structure when they were growing up, and I should have put more guidelines down with them. I definitely should have done that. I sort of knew that within myself but never admitted it."

Despite opening the doors for celebreality, as VH1 has dubbed it, Osbourne admits she's not a fan of reality TV, especially A&E's "Growing Up Gotti." Instead, she favors dramas like "24" and "Nip/Tuck."

"I don't see doing a reality show on somebody because their father was a hood," said Osbourne. "I'm sorry. I just don't get it. I detest anything to do with violence. Not saying that she's a violent woman, but she stems from a very violent family. And I just don't like it. It's just further evidence that, in the world of TV, bad behavior gets rewarded. Martha Stewart goes into prison, she comes out and she's got yet another TV show. Maybe if I rob a bank I can get a new show."

How the Osbournes Gave TV Tradition a Boost -- Again

"All happy families resemble one another; every unhappy family is unhappy in its own fashion," Tolstoy wrote. So it is with the uniquely unhappy Osbourne clan -- in their lives, in their MTV series and now in their lucrative deal that has Hollywood abuzz.

The deal, in which the Osbournes retain substantial control over the syndication rights for a new batch of episodes, seems like the latest thing. In fact, it employs a formula so retro it looks new.

In case you missed it, "The Osbournes" is what MTV calls "a reality-based" situation comedy. The show follows the exploits of befuddled Ozzy, who once bit the head off a live bat onstage, but who now warns his teenage kids Kelly and Jack about the dangers of drugs. Keeping house and home together is Ozzy's wife, Sharon, who on the show and in real life (supposedly the same thing) is both Ozzy's business manager and the mother of his children.

The joke, a riff on "Ozzie and Harriet," is that here's the weirdest guy in the world, with disaffected kids and a nutty wife, who underneath is a loving husband and parent, trying to stay sane and keep his kids on the straight and narrow. Plus, there's a lot of cursing -- bleeped, but easy to imagine. It's all very new, except if you consider old shows like "All in the Family," "The Addams Family" or "The Munsters."

New or not, real or not, the show drew nearly eight million viewers at its peak in April -- unheard of for a cable network -- and is especially strong in the much-valued 18-to-34 demographic.

This success set the stage for a wacky business negotiation between Sharon and MTV. The result? Ozzy and family walked away with an agreement that pays them $20 million for the next 20 episodes, according to numerous reports. (MTV executives dispute that figure, which other reports peg at $5 million or $10 million, but say a nondisclosure clause prevents them from saying more.) Days later, the family inked a wide-ranging merchandizing deal to sell everything from Ozzy action figures to bath towels.

More significant than the fee for the broadcast rights is the provision that gives the Osbournes, not MTV and not a studio, control over the show's ancillary rights, including foreign sales, DVD and video releases and syndication. MTV will get a piece of the action, but the Osbournes will take the lion's share. For the Osbournes, the new deal is a huge step up from the $200,000 the family was paid for the first season of 10 episodes.

This rights-ownership deal is a reversal of the current norm, and Sharon Osbourne called it precedent-setting. But in reality, it's more of a reversion to TV tradition. Just as the show promotes traditional family values -- for which it has been praised by none other than Dan Quayle -- the deal promotes traditional producer values.

In the old days, before 1992, independent TV producers produced shows, licensed the broadcast rights to networks, and kept the syndication rights -- the rights to sell reruns -- for themselves. For producers, syndication, not broadcast, made huge fortunes possible. A few shows, such as "Cosby" or "M*A*S*H," might earn more than $1 billion that way.

In fact, many shows engaged in "deficit financing," receiving a below-cost payment from the networks for the first run of a program in hopes of a windfall during syndication. Additional financing often came from movie and television studios, making the "independent" producers not quite so independent as they seemed.

This arrangement was cemented by the Financial Interest and Syndication Rules (know as fin-syn) promulgated by the Federal Communications Commission in 1970. The rules barred the networks from creating their own shows and from sharing in the profits from syndication. The idea was to increase programming diversity and limit market control by the three broadcast networks.

The fin-syn rules were repealed in the early 1990s. Now networks can create their own shows and often do. They also can make deals with outside producers in which syndication rights are split. These split-rights deals have become the norm.

At the same time, major producers (studios like Warner Brothers) started their own networks, studios like Disney bought networks like ABC, and entertainment conglomerates like Viacom came to control both studios (Paramount) and networks (CBS). Viacom also owns MTV, which had focused on music videos but came to develop reality shows such as "The Real World" and "The Osbournes."

Viacom's desire is to try control everything. So how did Ozzy and Sharon turn the tables? Timing. The family never signed a complete deal before the show got under way. Then when it became popular beyond imagination, they threatened to shop it to broadcast networks. MTV was forced to deal on Sharon's terms.

Popularity gave her the power the fin-syn rules (as well as popularity) used to offer the independents. It remains to be seen whether a reality show will sell in syndication. But for now, "The Osbournes" has taken television full circle.

Ozzy Osbourne Coming To A Talk Show Near You

Ozzy Osbourne is making several television appearances to promote the March 22 release of his new boxed set, Prince Of Darkness. Osbourne will show up on CNN's Showbiz Today on March 21, appear on NBC-TV's Late Night With Conan O'Brien on the 22, stop by Comedy Central's The Daily Show With Jon Stewart on the 23 and round out his TV blitz with a March 30 visit to NBC's Last Call With Carson Daly. Osbourne will also squeeze in a rare in-store appearance at the downtown Tower Records in New York City on the 22.

Prince Of Darkness, a four-CD, 52-song set, will feature fourteen previously unreleased songs, including nine newly recorded cover tunes.

The first two CDs will contain studio, live and demo versions of Osbourne's hits, while the third disc, titled Oddities And Duets, will feature Osbourne collaborations with celebrities like Frank Zappa's son Dweezil Zappa, Muppets star Miss Piggy, and rappers the Wu-Tang Clan, DMX, and the late Ol' Dirty Bastard. CD Four, called Under Covers, is an entirely new collection of covers of some of Osbourne's favorite songs, including Mountain's "Mississippi Queen," the Rolling Stones' "Sympathy For The Devil," and David Bowie's "All The Young Dudes."

Linkin Park, Blink 182, Ozzy Osbourne and No Doubt are among the artists confirmed to perform at the Concert For South Asia, according to MTV.com. The event will take place at Arrowhead Pond in Anaheim, California, on February 18th, with Jay-Z and Jurassic 5 also slated to appear. All proceeds from the show will go to Music For Relief, the organization started by Linkin Park and the American Red Cross to raise money for victims of the December 26 tsunami that devastated eleven countries in eastern Africa and southeast Asia.

Linkin Park guitarist Brad Delson said in a statement, "When we started Music For Relief, we hoped to mobilize artists and fans to contribute to the massive relief effort in South Asia. Due to the incredible support and generosity of so many of our peers and supporters within the music community, Music For Relief has played a vital role in helping get aid to people who most need it. We are deeply honored to participate in what will likely be our biggest event to date, Music For Relief's Concert for South Asia. With so many amazing artists on one bill, we expect this concert to be incredibly powerful in its ability to raise both money and awareness for the long-term rebuilding effort we must all support."

Music For Relief has raised over $1.5 million so far for tsunami relief through benefit shows, auctions and artist donations.

Organizers hope the February 18 concert will raise more than $1 million. Tickets go on sale this Friday (February 11).
